How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?
-
The best way to prepare for your session is to avoid drinking alcohol prior to your appointment.
-
It also helps to stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, and eat a meal beforehand.
-
You could also moisturise the area you are getting tattooed.
How long will my tattoo take to heal?
-
Your tattoo should take 7-14 days to fully heal.
-
It's important to follow proper aftercare instructions during the healing process to ensure the best possible outcome for your tattoo.
-
This includes keeping the tattoo clean, moisturised, and protected from sun exposure and other potential irritants like dust, fur, etc.
How long after the tattoo can I go back to the gym/swim?
-
When you can return to the gym or swimming after getting a tattoo depends on a few things like the size and location of the tattoo, your individual healing process, and how well you’re following the aftercare.
-
It’s usually best to wait until the initial healing stage is complete (when all the scabs have fallen off) before hitting the gym or pool.
-
Avoid activities that make you sweat a lot, as this can irritate the tattoo and increase the chance of infection.
-
Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide when to return, but it’s important to prioritize your health and the healing of your tattoo.
How much will it hurt?
-
Getting a tattoo does come with some discomfort, but it's manageable!
-
Think of it like getting through a waxing or threading session on a bad day—if you can handle that, you'll be just fine during your tattoo.
-
Pain levels vary from person to person, and some spots might be more sensitive than others. Generally, areas with more muscle or fat tend to be easier, while bonier areas might feel a bit more intense.
-
But don’t worry—none of our clients have ever had to tap out of the session because the pain was too much. We know you've got this, and we’re here to support you every step of the way!
Can I get a tattoo if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
-
Short answer: You technically could, but it’s best not to!
-
Long answer: Getting a tattoo while pregnant or breastfeeding isn’t the safest choice. There’s a risk of infection, and the stress and discomfort from the tattoo could affect your baby’s development. Plus, your body is focused on supporting your baby, which might slow down the healing process for a new tattoo.
-
We won’t tattoo you if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. We recommend waiting until after you’ve delivered and fully recovered.
What if I regret my tattoo?
-
If you ever change your mind about your tattoo, there are options like laser removal or covering it up with a new design.
-
That said, because tattoos are permanent, it’s important to take your time choosing the right artist, concept, and design. This helps ensure you’ll love your tattoo for years to come.
Can I get tattooed if I am diabetic?
-
If you have diabetes and want a tattoo, you absolutely can get one.
-
However, it’s best if your A1c is under 8%, and ideally under 7%, for the safest experience.
-
If you have circulation issues, it’s a good idea to avoid getting a tattoo on areas like your buttocks, shins, ankles, or feet. Also, consider skipping common insulin injection sites like your arms, abdomen, or thighs.
-
If you’re unsure about your A1c or have concerns about healing, it’s always a good idea to check in with your doctor beforehand.
Can I donate blood after getting a tattoo?
-
If you’ve recently gotten a tattoo, you’ll need to wait at least 6 months before donating blood. During this time, you won’t be eligible to donate, as it’s a precaution to prevent any risk of cross-contamination or blood-borne illnesses like hepatitis or HIV.
-
Blood banks recommend waiting 6-12 months to ensure your tattoo has fully healed.
Will you repeat my design for anyone else?
-
Custom tattoos are usually one of a kind and never repeated.
-
However, some flash tattoos may be repeated according to the artist's terms, and this will always be stated upfront.
How will I know if my tattoo is infected? What are the signs to look out for?
-
Spotty rash: sometimes red, sometimes white
-
Extreme redness 5 days after getting the tattoo
-
Extreme itching (healthy scabs will itch a little)
-
Feels hot to the touch
-
Swelling 5 days after getting the tattoo
-
Blistering
-
Excessive oozing, pus, especially associated with pimple-like bumps
-
Foul odor
-
Red streaking on the skin around the tattoo (also known as blood poisoning)
-
Swollen lymph nodes (a sign your body is trying to fight infection)
-
Fever and tiredness
None of this should happen if you're following the aftercare instructions, but in case you see any of the above signs, see a doctor immediately and contact your tattoo artist.
